The Nālvar are revered Tamil Saivite saints whose hymns form the cornerstone of the Thevaram tradition, celebrating Lord Shiva’s glory. The Nālvar, or the "Four Saints," are the pillars of Tamil Saivism, whose hymns form the foundation of Thevaram and Tamil devotional literature:

1. Appar (Tirunavukkarasar): Known as the "King of Words," Appar’s hymns reflect his unwavering devotion and the trials he overcame in his spiritual journey. His songs emphasize humility and surrender to Lord Shiva.

2. Sambandar (Tirugnana Sambandar): A prodigious child saint, Sambandar’s hymns are filled with divine wisdom, grace, and joy. His verses celebrate the compassionate nature of Lord Shiva.

3. Sundarar (Sundaramoorthy Nayanar): Renowned for his human-like relationship with Lord Shiva, Sundarar's hymns express devotion through love, gratitude, and even playful arguments with the divine.

4. Manickavasagar: Known for his profound Tamil literary work Tiruvasagam, Manickavasagar’s compositions resonate deeply with seekers, exploring themes of divine love and realization.

These saints dedicated their lives to singing the glory of Lord Shiva, spreading spiritual wisdom through their timeless hymns. Their compositions are not just devotional songs but treasures of Tamil literature and spirituality.

[ Story ] God will poke your eyes

Iraivan will poke your eyes

They used to say Iraivan will poke your eyes if you do bad. Is Iraivan someone walking around with a needle and waiting to poke everyone's eyes?

Iraivan is full of kindness and love, doesn't know to punish.

It is what we do that comes back to us

Once a man called a passerby. He told him this "I am going to get a mail today", the passerby man was wondering whether it is true. Then a postman came and gave a letter to this man, the passerby got shocked and asked him how he knew that. The man replied that he only posted the mail to himself.

So in a similar way, whether it is Good or Bad, it is what we do that comes back to us.

Our ancestor's loan

Once a man went to a hotel. He ate a small meal. The bearer came and gave a huge bill. This man was shocked to see this bill, he then asked the bearer why so much cost for just a small meal. The bearer said that they charge for the food that was eaten by his grandfather and great-grandfather too.

In the same way, we get the fruits of our ancestors.

Note: here Iraivan means God in Tamil
